Applied science communication module for the sake of our Science Shops

In a Science Shop, a great amount of success relies on communication, specifically on science communication. Communication impacts the very beginning of the process (how to contact with communities you can collaborate with), and it should be very well led through the research design and during the research as well – unless you can’t effectively co-conduct your research with the various kinds of organizations or civil society groups you work with in a Science Shop. Good science communication underpins the engagement of the society for research, such as the engagement of policymakers. It also increases the impact of the research in the local environment of the civil society group involved in the research. Science communication also develops the mutual learning process of the stakeholders of community-based research.

Black-eyed bean salad with tuna, Scottish lentil soup or apple chickpea cake – just a couple of very easy recipes from our legume cookbook.
Legumes, or „pulses“, are a cheap and environmentally friendly alternative to animal protein, providing several micro- and macronutrients. However, while beans, lentils and Co. have always been enjoying great popularity in oriental and North African countries, the consumption in Europe does not comply with the nutritional recommendations. With this book, we aim to raise legumes’ popularity among children and their parents by showing how easily delicious legume dishes can be prepared.

In the extraordinary year of 2020, we should have swiftly adapted to countless new things: wearing a mask, creative handshakes, quarantine rules, and quickly shifting work that went entirely onto virtual platforms. The tech industry had poured on us thousands of novel platforms and digital tools – such as Zoom, Miro, Mural, Padlet etc. – which were very useful in managing our projects online but some work-related challenges remained unanswered.

On the 24th of November, Petra Benyei (PhD. in Environmental Sciences at UAB, 2020) was invited by ESSRG’s researchers, Alexandra Czeglédi and Borbála Lipka, to introduce the Spanish citizen science platform called CONECT-e in an internal workshop. Participants from ESSRG and the Hungarian Seed House (Magház), Védegylet and the Hungarian Permaculture Association (MAPER) joined her on Zoom.
